Finally Finals, part 4. Freaking Four!!!

Today, I took my last first final at Perk.  I studied in my little nook in the library.

It's all coming to an end.  And a new beginning.

I'm so glad.

Killing Snakes

Disclaimer:  I'm not an animal rights activist, but apparently I have a bigger heart than I thought I did.

A few days ago, whilst I was babysitting, my nephews came to me, upset, because they had seen a snake.  I asked them to show it to me.

Whatever kind it was, it wasn't poisonous.  I'm no expert, but I can tell a poisonous from a venomous.

"Kill it, Nanny.  Kill it."

"It's not poisonous."

My best guess was a rat snake, although I'm not sure:

^Here it is^
I made the kids leave it alone and we all went back inside.  I know there's a king snake or a rat snake living in/around the shed, which is where this was.  Since we don't mind rat snakes and king snakes are good to have around, we leave it alone.

Yesterday, we saw a snake on the road.  Mom wanted to turn around and run it over.  I can understand wanting to kill it, but really?  You want to kill it on merit of the fact it exists?

I always found that sort of cruel.  Not just the "good" snakes, but the "bad" ones too take care of pests.  They're population control for rodents.  I hate rodents.  I don't have the phobia my mother and sister do, but I don't like them.  I'd rather a snake than a rat.

Anyway, since I'm talking animal rights.

Awesome. Just Awesome.

While I'm still debating on whether or not I want to self-pub that short, I came across this:

source, note, there's one curse word.  Like, one that I've only used once on here.

Crime and Community Service

Prologue:

The day has been nothing short of an adventure.  Like most adventures, it started out pretty normal.  We got out of Spanish I.  I went to the library to walk around the tomes, trying to soak up every moment because this is my last semester and my last days enjoying Perk's library, and Lacey went to World Civ II.

The Story:

We had lunch.  After, whilst Lacey and I were on the hunt for dessert, we went into the student store.  Since the semester's almost over, they haven't bothered buying new candy to stock up with.  So we went to the student center to find the vending machines.

Halfway to the vending machine, I noticed there was something hanging from my messenger bag.

It was a shirt from the store.  See, I have pins on the flap, and the shirt had gotten caught.  At first I threw it off and tried to kick it under the sofa.  It wouldn't go under.

So, I stuck it on the couch and bought my 3 Musketeers.  After picking those up, we went back to the store where I inconspicuously stuck it back on a hanger.  I don't know if anybody saw me put it back, but apparently nobody saw me take it.

I love being an accidental criminal.  Good thing I had to do community service anyway.

We went to Honors, our last meeting.  And then we got out.  We had to do one more community service.  Deciding to donate blood, we called around because our journals, including entries about community service, were due.

We hightailed it (sped) to the burg.  We were just waiting to get pulled over.  And then bawl when it did happen.  Luckily, it didn't.  It was thrilling.  It was stressful.

The place was supposed to close at 4 and we got there at 4:05.

No!!!!

The anguish.  The disappointment.  Oh no!  What were we going to do for community service now?

...But the door wasn't locked.  We went in.

Epilogue:

The place needed 15 donors for the day before they could quit for the day.  So, they were more than happy to take us.  They needed platelets.

I gave some.  It normally takes about 2 hours.  It only took me a little over 1 (YAY!).  The first arm they tried, my vein blew; the first time that had ever happened.  That huge needle has to go in deeper and I learned not to try to give platelets with that arm again.  My other arm worked fine though.

And now, all I got to do is write up my journals and turn them in Friday.  All's well that ends well.

That was enough adventure for real life.

So Long, Semester!

This upcoming week is my last real week of classes.  The next week is finals, and then I am officially done with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Perkinston Campus.

I'm glad to see it over.  Since I decided not to be an English Education major, the classes, all of them, have been rather, "What's the point?"

Other than having a high GPA to show to the W, that is.

The other sucky part of this semester has been that I have terrible math skills.  I was rearranging my classes, and...

I won't be graduating with an associate's from Perk.  I am one credit away.  One.  Damn.  Credit.

When I first found out, I thought my Long Ridge transer credits would save me.  They'd count.

Nope.

So, it's been an all-around disappointing semester.  For me, and for everyone who's mad at me for not going with the English major and changing to Culinary Arts.  Although, that's the least of everybody else's worries.

It'll be all over soon.  Lacey and I will be going to Columbus to tour the campus and explore the area and look for an rent house or apartment.

I love having something to look forward to.

Good News

I got my scholarship information from the W.  Meaning, I got a nice-sized scholarship.

I am going, at least that's how it looks at the moment.

I can't wait till August.

Okay, enough restraint.

YAY!!!

SQUEEEE!!!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder by Joanne Fluke

I finished two of my bookmarked books today.  Number 2 was Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder by Joanne Fluke:

Goodreads Synopsis:
No one cooks up a delectable, suspense-filled mystery quite like Hannah Swensen, Joanne Fluke's dessert-baking, red-haired heroine whose gingersnaps are as tart as her comebacks, and whose penchant for solving crimes-one delicious clue at a time-has made her a bestselling favorite. And it all began on these pages, with a bakery, a murder, and some suddenly scandalous chocolate-chip crunchies. Featuring a bonus short story and brand new, mouthwatering recipes, this new edition of the very first Hannah Swensen mystery is sure to have readers coming back for seconds.

Hannah already has her hands full trying to dodge her mother's attempts to marry her off while running The Cookie Jar, Lake Eden's most popular bakery. But once Ron LaSalle, the beloved delivery man from the Cozy Cow Dairy, is found murdered behind her bakery with Hannah's famous Chocolate Chip Crunchies scattered around him, her life just can't get any worse. Determined not to let her cookies get a bad reputation, she sets out to track down a killer. But if she doesn't watch her back, Hannah's sweet life may get burned to a crisp.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really liked this.  It wasn't, oh this isn't the best book I've ever read, but it's okay.

No, this was actually a great book.  I love when we find out whodunit.  I'm relatively new to mysteries, and stick to the "cozy mysteries," and this one was just amazing.  The plotting, pacing, and a great cast.

Highly, highly recommended.

About My Reading...

This year, I've read...

15 historical romances
4 contemporary romances
8 children's/teen/YA
2 mysteries (both Stephanie Plum)
2 nonfiction
2 classics (Tartuffe and Candide for World Lit II)

That equal 33?  It should.

I've been on a romance reading binge this year.  I don't know how I feel about it.

Well, I know exactly how I feel about it.  I'm upset and disappointed in myself.

I thought I was a fantasy fan (well, romance is glorified fantasy, but do romance and fantasy writers really share fanbases?).  I mean, I still love my fantasy books, but the ones I've cracked this year I still have bookmarked, unless they were children's.

Shouldn't an aspiring fantasy writer read...well, fantasy?  Like with dragons?  And magic?  And swords and people killing people violently?  Well, I did read that in the children's books, but shouldn't I be moving up to adult books?

Or, I can be happy and read what I want and not worry about how it looks.  Besides, I didn't read when they would have been age appropriate, so really, I'm just catching up.  And the romances are in my reading level.

So, technically, with mixing my medicines, so to speak (because books are medicine), I'm getting my recommended dose of adult fantasy.

Everything's good.

Happy Easter!
